Although much has been written on the benefit of a supportive group climate that generates trust and open discussion (see, for example, Larson and LaFasto, 1989; Scheerhorn and Geist, 1997), such a discussion is beyond the scope of this article. What is germane, however, is that Gibb’s work is woven into the texture of much of the conflict literature today. Another thread that permeates discussions of conflict is the phrase ‘‘win-win’’ (Jandt and Gillete, 1985). This process describes an intent to find a solution that works for everyone – one in which everyone gets at least some of what s/he wants. Steps involve a focus on issues and a clear discussion of what everyone hopes to accomplish.
