Thirty-two lactating cows with clinical signs
of mastitis whom had got 79 infected mammary
quarters were used for this study. Udders of the cows
were checked for redness, pain, heat, hardness and
swelling by inspection. Samples from each quarter
were collected and controlled for any variation in
milk colour and consistency. Mastitis was diagnosed
by typical clinical symptoms of the mammary gland
(hardness, pain, redness, heat and swelling) and general
clinical symptoms of systemic infection (watery milk,
anorexia, decreased milk yield).
