Chapter 11 I
! Bad neighbors and

Fletcher and Fizza got offt he bus in the center of Birmingham.
1 All around them were tall buildings and trucks, buses, and
1 ' cars that queued past them
"Where are they, then?" Fizza shouted in an attempt to be
heard over the noise of the traffic.
I "What?"
"The stables! Mrhere are they?"
"Over there!" shouted Fletcher, pointing at an ugly gray
wall which had an old wood gate in the center of it. Fizza could
just see the tops of the stables on the other side and a small
stone house. Next door to the stables was a large factory with
the words "Scully's Waste" written in large, red letters on its
roof. Several of the factory's trucks were parked right beside it.
Fizza was very much a city girl, but even she hadn't expected
this. To her, stables should be in the middle of the country, just
like they had been on Sark. It seemed crazy to find them in the
middle of a city!
"You're joking!" she said. "You must hate it here!"
"It's OK once you get inside," said Fletcher. "Come on. Oh,
and please don't mention the fight - Dad will go crazy."
"Only if you don't tell my mom that I joined in!" she
replied. "She's meeting me here."
Smiling, Fletcher opened the large, wood gate and they
stepped into the yard. He was right: once they were inside
the wall it didn't feel that different from the stables on Sark.
