Evaluation of antibacterial activity of the prepared dyes 3a–e was
carried out using S. aureus (Sa), M. luteus (Ml), E. coli (Ec) and
P. aeruginosa (Ps). The results for well diffusion are tabulated in
Table 3. Tetracycline and penicillin were used as standard antibiotics.
The results revealed that all five dyes exhibit strong activities towards
the selected bacteria except for E. coli (a Gram-positive bacterium). In
addition, the results indicate that all the studied dyes have strong activities against Gram-negative bacteria. While the dyes 3c and 3e did not
show activities against E. coli as a Gram-positive bacterium. Therefore,
the prepared dyes with phenolic and thiazolidinone moiety as bioactive
components are effective against Gram-negative bacteria.
