Last summer I decided to prove myself and took an English course at Cambridge, England. It was a huge thing for me, as it was going to be my first time travelling alone.
I was about to leave Chile when I realized everything was going to be different from now on, but I couldn’t feel any happier. I wanted to prove myself; at least that’s what I used to say. But, to be honest, I didn’t even know what to expect. The only thing I knew for sure was that a lady named Patricia would be waiting for me, and that she was going to be my host mom throughout this whole experience.
This course consisted on being overseas for over two months taking English classes five days a week. It supposed to improve our language skills and get us involve in the, so different, customs of England. I would say the course was all right, and I actually rather enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to know a lot of the UK, and other countries as well. Moreover, Cambridge was a lovely place to stay because it was quite small and safe. Actually, one of the things I did the most was just being chilling around Cambridge, and going to the shopping centre that I deeply fell in love with.
Days passed by, and I was beginning to feel a bit more comfy with England and my school. I met lots of people from around the whole world, but, yeah, I ended up hanging out with a couple of Argentineans. Every single day after school we went straight to Costa to grab something to drink, and then to the shopping centre to see what was new. Moreover, every Thursday we went to Ballare, which was the most famous international pub in Cambridge, and had a blast just meeting new people. I would say my days at England were quite nice, as for the first time I felt that I didn’t have anything to worry about.
I used to wait for weekends because those were the days I visited new countries nearby England. I started by going to Scotland, where I had a great time walking days around Edinburgh. Then, I visited The Netherlands, where I just enjoyed myself. Then I decided to go to France, where everything was about love. Next, it was the turn for Spain, where I was delighted to hear a bit of Spanish. And lastly, I visited places close to Cambridge like London, Manchester, Leeds, and York. I had a great time meeting new places and realities and, even though I was alone, most of the time I had the chance to meet locals that showed me a bit of their life.
Being studying overseas was a great experience because, in one certain way, I learnt how to ‘survive’. Also, the people I met and the things I saw were something that I will never forget. I realized how different people see the world, and because of that, I learnt how to get involve in realities, which are not similar as the one I had. And last but not least, I improved my language skills just by being there trying to ‘survive’, as I said before. All these reasons proved that my experience in Cambridge, England was a unique one, and a journey that I will always treasured in my heart. That is why I considered it as a memorable journey.
