The absolute values of the three nitrogenous nutrients varied from
day to day (data not shown). The trial averages (Fig. 4), however
suggest that most of the standing stock of dissolved N was in the form
of nitrate (14.3 ± 4.1–31.8 ± 4.4 mg L−1). Ammonia concentration
was consistently the lowest of the N species (0.63 ± 0.42–5.36 ±
2.67 mg L−1) and nitrite concentration was intermediate (2.2 ± 1.3–
16.7 ± 3.8 mg L−1)
