Bernard J. (Bernie) Ebbers was a man who believed in himself and his company. Ebbers, a former milkman and bar bouncer in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, became known as the “telecom cowboy” for amassing a fortune while building the second-largest telecommunications company in the United States. Headquartered in Clinton, Mississippi, WorldCom, at its zenith, had acquired more than 70 telecom companies and reported $3.8 billion in profits before taxes and other charges.
