The last type of lodging we discuss in this chapter are facilities dedicated solely to providing lodging and hospitality in ways that do not fit into the traditional limited-service, basic full-service, and full- service framework. Included in this group are bed-and-breakfasts, rooming houses, the YM/YWCA, United Service Organizations (USO) for military personnel in transit, missions, and many others. They offer lodging with few amenities; in fact, many are simply bedrooms or sleeping rooms with shared bathrooms, dining facilities, and TVI family rooms. Although they were once popular, these types of lodging now represent a small percentage of the lodging market. That said, they still account for billions of dollars in revenues.
