If a player was hacked down by the last defender in the area last season they would expect to receive a red card, ban and penalty against them.

That has been judged as unfair and now they will only receive a yellow card if the challenge is inside the area and a red card if outside.

However, if the offence is “handball or clearly not a genuine attempt to play or challenge for the ball, they player will be sent off.”
