Laser scanners are optical measuring systems based on a transmission of laser beam
by moving (sweeping or rotating) mirrors on object surfaces. The object is lighted point by
point and then the reflected laser beam is detected. In opposite to measurements on reflectors,
the accuracy of distance measurements depends on the intensity of the reflected laser beam.
Physical laws describe the functionality between accuracy and intensity (Gerthsen 1993).
