CDM obligations on the Principal Contractor
(b) Further developing the health and safety plan
The plan is the foundation upon which the health and safety management of the construction phase is based.
The principal contractor takes over (from the CDM Coordinator) responsibility for the health and safety plan, before the construction phase commences.
This transfer must take place as soon as possible after the principal contractor is appointed. There must be sufficient time for the principal contractor to develop the plan, and there must be close liaison with the CDM Coordinator to ensure a smooth transition.
(c ) Information and training
The principal contractor is responsible for providing comprehensive information to all sub-contractors in relation to the risks to the health and safety of each sub-contractor’s employees.
The principal contractor is also required to ensure that all sub-contractors communicate on health and safety and are encouraged to offer any relevant information and advice to the principal contractor.
