A phobic reaction can be so mild that it hardly affects a person’s life. The feared object or situation may enter the person’s life so rarely that the phobia does not interfere with daily functioning. Other phobias,such as fear of water,may prohibit activities such as taking a shower or brushing one’s teeth. Three major types of phobias are described here.
