1.2 Statement of the Problem
Wirotanun(2002) refers that the National English Curriculum from elementary level to high school level, grammar instruction and reading comprehension are the main focuses at a university level. When EFL students enter university, they are required to use more reading skill. Students in the university are required to read textbooks in English. These students have not received adequate instruction in reading and so the majority of Thai university students have problems in reading comprehension. The problems are inabilities to understand sentences, to capture the main idea of a text and to provide supporting details.
