Overexpression of mitochondrial Cat2p caused a 50% increase of 2-methyl-propanol formation compared with that in control cells (Fig. 1). The other alcohol compounds,
2-phenylethanol, 2-methyl butanol and 3-methyl-butanol, were not significantly affected by the overexpression of
CAT2 (Table 2). Regarding the production of organic acids, overexpression of CAT2 caused a decrease in the concentra- tions of these compounds. The formation of organic acids, such as 3-methyl butanoic, hexanoic, octanoic and decanoic acids, was significantly decreased when the cytosolic or mitochondrial Cat2p isoforms were overexpressed (Table 2).
