Rest intervals of one to three minutes typically are
recommended for older adults (Chodzko-Zajko et al.,
2009). However, the effect of these RI on muscle
performance has not been widely investigated. The
purpose of this study, therefore, was to assess, in
resistance-trained older women, the influence of RI of one
(RI-1) and three minutes (RI-3), between sets, on number
of repetitions, sustainability of repetitions, and total
volume during a single resistance training exercise (leg
press). It was hypothesized that 1) neither of the RI would
promote the sustainability of repetitions, and 2) that the
longer RI would promote the achievement of a greater
total volume.
