Sb/sth, sb, or sth?

Hi,
I'm using Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary, and am looking at the definitions. After the word there is sometimes weird abbreviations like sb/sth. For example, in a def. of abide, the dictionary says:
can't abide sb/sth
If you can't abide someone or something, you dislike them very much
I can't abide her.
He couldn't abide laziness.
In a later def. it says:
abide by sth phrasal verb
to accept or obey an agreement, decision or rule
Does anyone know what sb/sth means?
