John Ruskin, in 1851, suggested that “in order that people
may be happy in their work, these three things are
needed: they must be fit for it; they must not do too much
of it; and they must have a sense of success in it”. Since
leaders or managers are primarily responsible for
ensuring that these three exist for their followers or
subordinates, it is important to understand the link
between leadership and stress. Stressed leaders create
stressed organizations and employees.
