Organic versus non-organic farming
Intensive/non-organic farming
few crops or animals are lost to disease
high yields
fruit and vegetables may look better, eg regular shape and sizes
non-organic food is generally cheaper
non-organic food may last longer
Organic farming
organic products may contain fewer chemicals, so people know what has gone into their food
world population is increasing and set to reach approximately 9 billion by 2050 – organic farming can see yields drop
natural fertilisers help improve the soil structure, allowing more moisture to be held in the soil during dry periods
there are no artificial fertilisers washing into rivers and lakes, causing eutrophication
more people are employed on the farms
