Split the group down into small teams and distribute the handout.
Handout states:
As Management Pilots within a new Airline your team have been given the responsibility
of writing the new company SOPs. Consider and discuss the following questions within
your team and list as many items you can relevant to the headings
1. What is the objective of SOPs / How can we benefit from them?
2. What makes a good/effective S.O.P?
3. Why do some crew disregard/deviate from S.O. P.s
The deliberate disregard of SOPs is fortunately rare, however, in some accidents there
has been an almost certain disregard of established rules or procedures.
1. Reasons crew disregard/deviate from SOPs
2. How will you promote adherence to SOPs?
Direct them to work as individual teams to discuss and capture their group’s comments.
Allow sufficient time for the groups to work through each section and allow them to share
their remarks with the other teams. Facilitate a discussion between all teams based on
their remarks.
