Strengths of this study include the broad sampling
base of hospitals and nurses and the focus on nurse
managers and staff nurses. A limitation of the study is
the inability to differentiate severity of the disability
among such a broad range of reported disabilities
among the staff nurses and its potential influence on
attitudes or concerns of the nurse leaders. Another
limitation may be a potential instrumentation bias of
respondents, aware of the purpose of the study, who
may have consciously or unconsciously given perceived
desired responses. Further, as nearly always in a survey,
we are left wondering about the views of those who did
not respond. For these reasons, the instrument likely
needs further scrutiny, and the study should be refined
and replicated.
