We have successfully used the Primulina cultures to illustrate the efficiency of micropropagation, the potential role of auxins in the induction and enhancement of regeneration, and the usefulness of bioreactors for large-scale propagation of horticultural plants. The ready availability of regenerable plant materials may also facilitate development of unique interspecific hybrids via protoplast fusion with common African violets (Saintpaulia ionantha) to introduce novel flower colors in both of these horticultural species.
