Do you get many days off when you just get to hang out with your friends and be normal?
When I do a tour, I’m not home very much. Usually, from Monday ’til Thursday or Friday, I’m at home and then at the weekend I’m doing shows, so it’s OK. And I’m studying with friends in the meantime.
I read that you started DJing weddings when you were 10 years old, which is awesome. What sort of stuff did you play at – was it family weddings that you were doing?
Yeah, it was weddings and birthday parties [for] friends of mine, but it wasn’t really DJing. It was just sitting there and doing the musical background stuff. Top 40 and things that people wanted to listen to. Most of the time, before the party when I played for a friend of mine, I asked, “Which songs would you like me to play?” and they gave me a CD. It wasn’t like a complete DJ set.
So when did you do your first proper DJ set?
That was in 2010, the 15th of January, at P60. That’s a kind of club in my hometown, and that was the first time I played a real DJ set.
Is that what got you hooked on it, or had you already decided this was what you wanted to do?
I already decided. It was a long while ago. I saw Tiësto playing at the Olympics in 2004 and from that point on decided, “Whoa, that’s what I want to do as well.” From that point, I came in touch with electronic music and I started buying the Tiësto CDs and I started saving up some money for a DJ set-up.
