Erlang [ARM95a] is a parallel functional programming
language designed for programming real-time
control systems (examples of such systems are telephone
exchanges, Automated Teller Machines etc.).
We wanted to make a language which addressed many
of the problems which are handled in an operating system
while maintaining the advantages of a declarative
programming language. Our problem domain requires
that we address the following problems:
