Focusing on the operational replenishment of ships, one chal- lenge that the cruise SCM has is the short time window constraint during the replenishment of the ships. Therefore, continuous replenishment at its best rate has on average granularity of a week, ranging from as little as 3–14 days. The ships benefit from a very tiny time frame to re-supply, typically 6–8 h in port, and un- fortunately the time window does not increase proportionally with the ship’s tonnage. Therefore, having an efficient and timely oper- ation without disruption is of high importance on the loading day. Another unknown on loading day is the fact that passengers are not limited in their luggage to the exception of those who arrive by air and who are constrained to airline limits. It is the norm for pas- sengers to arrive each with two suitcases and a carry on, and even three suitcases per person on occasion.
