In this section, some of the important theoretical approaches in semantic study will be presented. The section stars with the most common kind of semantic analysis, which is often called componential analysis (CA). This approach is usually found and mentioned in semantics because it allows an economic characterization of the meanings. In this section we discuss how semantic components are used to capture word meaning in componential analysis. We look briefly at Jerrold Katz's semantic theory, a componential theory designed to capture the meaning phenomena. A second, related, Justification for semantic features will be described. Finally, we look at another kind of theoretical approach which is different from componential analysis - that of prototype theory
