At the national level, political conflict of a major scale can proceed along three paths. First is to allow the conflicting situation to rift on while those who are in power would use forces to subjugate those who are against the existing system. The fight between the power wielders and those who hold different political stand and different ideology has been known to exist throughout history. But the most distinguished one would be between Fascism and Democracy and ironically joined by Socialism. After the struggle was over, it became a fight between Democracy and Socialism. Domestically this ideological fight cost many lives in many countries. Now it is more or less settled and peaceful co-existence is made possible through mutual interest.
