Treatment sessions (40–45 minutes)were given twice weekly for 6 weeks between May and August. An appropriately trained hippotherapy horse was selected for each child. Equipment included bareback pads, American Society for Testing and Materials–certified horse riding helmets, a
halter, and a lead rope. Stirrups were added as the children progressed.Horses were led by experienced horse handlers, and a second person walking alongside the horse was used as needed; the primary investigator provided treatment and functioned as the primary person walking alongside the horse.
