Green logistics is a new logistics concept that was proposed by corporations and academics in
the West in 1990. Logistics activities and social/economic development have been, in fact,
two sides of the same coin over the past few decades. The booming of regional blocs has been
a driving force for highly efficient global logistics. Meanwhile, lifestyle changes (e.g. the
popularity of convenience stores and shopping malls, and the emergence of e-commerce) have
been increasing the frequency of logistics activities. These factors have been contributing to
the growing problems associated with energy consumption, air and waste pollution, and
resources wastefulness. This is why the concept of green logistics that focuses on sustainable
development has come into play.
