In Year 1 (l999—2000 school year), the fifth- and sixth-grade laptop classrooms were compared to a control group consisting of traditional classrooms that had fewer than five computers in the classroom. The laptop teachers had completed a summer workshop in using the NTeQ model and had varying degrees of proficiency using Microsoft Office and navigating the Internet.
