My best friend is Michael. We first met at the cram school. He is a shy person, but after working several weeks together in a group, I discovered that Michael is creative and can solve many problems calmly. The reason why we went to the cram school is that we were eager to enter the honors class in our high school. The cram school teacher had us conduct different kinds of experiments in physics and chemistry. There were always obstacles and challenges through the experiments; the processes were complicated and sometimes data analyzing was annoying. However, Michael just stayed as calm as a cucumber when facing these problems. He believed that “everything happens for a reason.” Even though he was only a ninth grader, I was really impressed by his maturity and his beliefs. His parents must have taught him WELL, and that is also a significant requirement to become a scientist. By the time we both graduated from junior high school, he was already 180 centimeters tall, so he was kind of like my brother.
We were in different classes in our first year in high school, but then we were classmates all the way until we graduated. We both love to watch NBA and play basketball. I am a great shooter, but Michael can either shoot or penetrate into the painted area. Also, Michael is not a ball hog; he passes the ball, and we often do insane pick and roll. We were always on the same team and won consecutive wins. The afternoon time at the basketball court with him was always superb.
However, there is a story about how Michael truly became my best friend. In our sophomore year, we participated in the “Do It Yourself- Roller-Coaster Track Designing Contest.” There were four members in our group at first, but later I kicked two of them out . The reason was that they had lots of excuses just to avoid doing the work together. As the result, since we only had a two-member group, we had doubled our workload and had to spend much more time, but even despite those problems we won Second Place! That was really a time worth remembering. During the school days, no matter what the teachers were doing, we were just kept sketching our design or cutting boards and papers. What’s even more incredible was that Michael spent three weekends working in my home. I really appreciated his parents for being so understanding. However, the way to glory is like a path bristled with thorns. For example, once another group tried to plagiarize our works and once we were called for disobeying the contest rules, but we were able to overcome all of them and succeed.
This is our story. I am now studying in Taipei, while Michael studies in Kaohsiung, but we still keep in touch. We will never forget each other and are eager to maintain our lifelong friendship.
