Tourism is Hoi An’s largest industry and employer. The local
tourism industry’s success is based on Hoi An’s natural and cultural
heritage resources, therefore, if these resources are not sustainably
managed, this tourism destination will be affected.
While tourism brings positive economic benefits, it also can have
negative impacts on the quality of life of the local population if it is
not properly controlled. Tourism growth must thus be managed so
that the tourism industry conforms to the needs of Hoi An’s people
and the industry remains within the limits of the carrying capacity
of the built and natural environment
