Mackenzie Paper Division currently has programs in place to reduce water consumption and losses. The company knows that 17% of water is lost to evaporation; however, the percentage used in converting wood chips into paper product is not known. Given existing metrics, input analysis is not easily amenable to quantification. Moreover, inputs in terms of the amount of water, chips and chemicals cannot be added in a simple way to compare with outputs of saleable product and non-saleable wastes.
