Stylists are doing one thing one day, another the next and by week’s end have been asked to attempt the impossible! Seriously, one week went like this: tell a supermodel her kitchen isn’t up to scratch; make a blanket appear as if it’s worth parting with a month’s salary; make good a broken table leg in ten minutes; build a fake wall (and paint and paper it, too); and train a peacock for a wedding. Really, stylists have to be able to do a bit of everything. That doesn’t mean you can master one thing, but more that you need to have a genuine interest in most things. In short, you need to nod yes when your mind is saying, ‘Oh noooooo!’ But herein lies why it’s the most exciting job in the whole wide world. While your mind’s telling you it’s impossible and, like a reality show without a prize, the client’s clock is ticking, the no really does turn into a yes.
