Conception of learning ; Saljo may have been the first person to start the study of conceptions of learning. He identified college students'conceptions of learning as increase of knowledge, memorizing, acquisition of facts or procedures that can be retained and/or utilized in practice, abstraction of meaning, and interpretative process aimed at the understanding of reality. Later studies followed Saljo's work and extended his assertion to different contexts. For example, Marton, Dall'Alba, and Beaty categorized conceptions of learning as "fragmented" and "cohesive." Fragmented conceptions reflect no or little understanding of the relationship of the learning enviroment with the promoted student learning.
