It was reported that alteration of lipid content in rice seed resulted in chalky endosperm. Total lipid
content was much higher in the white-core endosperm floury
endosperm-4 kernels [6]. The lipid content of opaque endosperms
was only 65.7% of the wild-type in maize [7]. The endospermic oil
reserves are used post-germinatively via gluconeogenesis to fuel
seedling establishment [3].
