2.7 Four-point flexural strength test
The strengthened beam specimens were tested under fourpoint
bending (flexure). Generally flexural failure is expected
to occur in whenever effective span to depth ratio is at least 9.
The four-point bending (flexure) static loading was performed
using Universal Testing Machine with under displacement
controlled at a constant head-loading rate of 0.015 mm/sec.
Load increment, ultimate load, strain and deflection were
recorded by data logger while the crack pattern was visualized
manually.
3. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The summary of the deflection, ultimate load, stiffness and
energy absorption for the three series of ten (10) RC beams is
illustrated in Table 2. The load versus deflection curve for
NSM GFRP bars and EB CFRP sheet strengthened beam are
shown in Figure 8 (a) and (b).
