FREE SUBJECTS Government waives fees for needy kids The Education Ministry plans to drop extra tuition fees for students from poor families nationwide in a bid to reduce ineq- uality in education, officials said on June 12. At present, extra tuition fees mean stu- dents have to pay for their elective subjects such as art, music and sports. "We aim to support poor students," edu- cation official Kamchorn Tatiyakawee said. "If their parents' income is lower than 40,000 baht per year or the students are orphans, they will be categorised as poor.
