Detecting instability factors responsible for landslides requires a
comprehensive knowledge of the local geologic conditions affecting
landslides in the study area (Guzzetti et al., 1999). The instability
factors used in this study included slope angle, soil geology and
erodibility, proximity to streams, precipitation, landcover patterns,
and soil properties (Wieczorek, 1984; Soeters and Van Westen, 1996).
