In the drier regions of the mid-latiudes,forests give way to grasslands. Here ,in the dry mid-latitude climate of the continental interior, there are treeless grassy plains. The Pampas of South America is a grassland closely associated with low precipitation and moderate temperatures. They provide rich agricultural land for the growing of crops such as wheat. Where the grass is shorter, these areas are called Steppes and are more suitable for animals to graze.
