Differences in shade tolerances among members of quasigenera are well known to foresters. All dipterocarps appear, remarkably, to have low compensation points, and the differences appear to be principally attributable to differences in max- imum rates of photosynthesis (A. Moad, in preparation) and to rates of dark respiration (R. A. Sunderland, unpublished).
