Part of being an SA is managing risk. The main risks that we are concerned
with boil down to loss of service, a subset of which is loss of data. One of the
most basic ways that all SAs manage risk is by making backups. Backups are
part of a risk-mitigation strategy, protecting against loss of data and service.
In Chapter 25 we look in more detail at how various technologies, such as
RAID, help us to mitigate the risk of data service loss.
