According to Mr. Cochrane’s report on the Indonesian ban on the export of raw ore, the mining companies currently mining in Indonesia will have to build smelting facilities to process the raw ore before export by 2017. The regulation change was aimed at increasing value-added industries in Indonesia’s economy by requiring miners to build smelters in the country.
