KOTA KINABALU: Newly-appointed Sabahminister Datuk Teo Chee Kang
will handle matters affecting the Chinese community.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman
said Teo, the Special Functions Minister, would also oversee the state Economic Planning Unit (EPU).
“Part of his duties will be to see what more can be done to ensure continued support from the community for Barisan Nasional,” Musa said after chairing the first state Cabinet meeting following the 13th general election.
Sabah Barisan suffered losses in Chinese-majority areas, notably the Kota Kinabalu state and Sandakan parliamentary seats held by former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai
and former federal deputy minister Datuk V.K. Liew
respectively.
As the minister in charge of the state EPU, Teo would be meeting senior civil servants to chart Sabah's future development programmes, oversee their implementation and ensure satisfactory results, Musa said.
At the Cabinet meeting earlier, Musa said he reminded the ministers that it was now time to get down to work to fulfil Barisan's promises to the people.
“My message to them was that the time for politics and polemics are over,” he added.
When asked about ongoing development projects in areas won by Opposition candidates, Musa said these would continue.
“What we have planned will continue. We are committed to the people's wellbeing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Musa said assemblymen would take their oaths on June 13.
Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin
would open the 14th meeting of the state assembly on June 17.
