The most common type of ventilation leading to
pneumothorax was Inspiratory Positive Pressure
Ventilation (IPPV) in 62.7% and Continuous
Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) in 10% of cases.
Endotrcheal CPAP, Endonasal CPAP and
Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (IMV), other
modes of ventilation, were used in 5%, 5% and
27.3% of cases respectively. Mortality rate after
developing pneumothorax was 40.8%, compared
with 32% in the control group which was not
significantly different (P=0.4).
