Other Headline Techniques
While there are a variety of headline techniques that can work, the following are some of the most time tested winners.
Use specifics - This can mean percentages, or numbers. You must be careful depending on what you're promoting, and not state something that isn't true.
Arouse curiosity - "Crazy dude saves 80% on car insurance with this one weird trick" is an example aimed at arousing someone's curiosity.
Ask a question - As in the examples above like "Can you imagine cutting your car insurance bill by 50%?".
Use the words 'how to' - People like learning, especially when it avoids pain or gains pleasure. An example of this headline type would be "How to save 50% on car insurance".
Use quotes - I've read studies that headlines in quotes draw 28% more attention (attention... not that your CTR will increase 28% unfortunately!). Using quotes makes the headline appear more important because it gives the impressions that someone is being quoted, which adds credibility. Example - "You too can save 50% on car insurance".
Use the imperative - The imperative is a grammatical mood that forms commands or requests. The imperative commands, or motivates your visitor to do something (take action). It starts with an action verb such as 'improve', assumes the subject is you, and ends with the object of the action. Examples:
Improve your eyesight
Stop overpaying for car insurance
Cancel your debts
Erase acne
This is actually a very powerful technique, and one we'll explore more in the next lesson.
Announce news - "New breakthrough enables California man to yoyo better than anyone"
Stir curiosity - "Is is really possible to leash train cats?"
Ask the visitor to compare - "Compare your current auto insurance to ours
