The rod-like ZrB2 powder was obtained in vacuum, while argon atmosphere results in globular powders. The difference in morphology of produced ZrB2 powders in vacuum and argon atmospheres are resulted from their different reaction paths, depending on how much the intermediate product of B2O3 remained in the raw powder compacted disks.
