Objectives define what you will accomplish this year.
Setting individual objectives helps to define strategies, steps and priorities to attain organizational goals.
Setting objectives as a part of the Performance Management process accomplishes the following:
Ensures alignment of individual activities and efforts with departmental and organizational business priorities
Enhances communication between the employee and manager
Establishes a clear understanding of job expectations and how performance will be measured
Recognizes employee accomplishments and identifies areas for continued improvement.
Well written objectives statements:
It is important to formulate a clear and accurate objective statement. The S.M.A.R.T acronym is used by many experts in objective setting. SMART stands for: Specific – Measurable – Attainable – Relevant - Time Bound.
Each objective should be specific enough to define the outcome so you can tell exactly when the objective has been reached; attainable and relevant to indicate an objective is aligned with the departmental and organizational objectives; and tied to timelines and resources meaning that it has a completion date and recognizes the availability of resources.
