Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Monday that he has instructed the Justice Ministry to study legal channels for stripping former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra of his police rank.
The Royal Thai Police has been earlier asked to consider removing the police rank from Thaksin after he had given interviews to foreign media, affecting a high institution of the country.
Prayut said the police's action against Thaksin has not progressed because the police's rules for stripping an officer of his rank would be applied to active police officers.
As a result, Prayut said, he told the Justice Ministry to consider what actions could be made.
