METHODS
The North Carolina Study of Home Care and Hospice
Nurses was a mail survey of registered nurses listed in
the licensing database of the North Carolina Board of
Nursing as working in home care or hospice in nonadministrative
positions. The survey was conducted in
2006. The questionnaire can be viewed at http://www.
sra.com/nchhnquestionnaire/. We used SAS 9.1 (SAS Institute,
Cary, NC) to calculate percentages along with
confidence intervals that incorporate a finite population
correction factor. Complete details of the study design
have been published previously.8,9 This study was
