The cow behavioural activity ‘lying’ refers to a cow resting in
the stall in one of its normal resting postures, i.e., long, short,
narrow or wide. The growing interest in this particular aspect
of cow behaviour is prompted by the realisation that modifications
in lying behaviour, caused by social and physical
problems related to the breeding environment, can negatively
influence the health and reproductive efficiency of dairy cows
